James Scott Witherow has been
charged with malicious wounding in a shooting that happened Sunday.
A former Martinsville City
Police officer has been charged with shooting a woman Sunday at an apartment
complex.
James Scott Witherow has been
charged with malicious wounding. He is being held on a $5,000 secured bond in
the Martinsville City Jail.
Witherow is accused of shooting
a woman around 3 p.m. Sunday at the Avalon Arms Apartment Complex in
Martinsville. The victim was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
It’s not clear how badly she was hurt.
Because the suspect is a former
member of the Martinsville Police Department, the investigation is being
handled by Virginia State Police. Also, Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s
Attorney David Grimes has been requested to serve as special prosecutor.
