FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
A former Winnsboro police officer who shot his estranged
wife while on duty in 2012 has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. Michael
Roseboro on Thursday pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault and battery
of a high and aggravated nature. He was originally charged with attempted
murder.
Roseboro shot his estranged wife in Winnsboro and then
disappeared in his patrol vehicle for five days in November of 2012. As
authorities were taking him into custody at a church camp in Great Falls, he shot
himself in the chest.
Before his employment with the Winnsboro Department of
Public Safety, Roseboro worked for the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department
for ten years. He was fired for lying to county officials about the sale of a
fire department pumper truck. Prosecutors said the maximum sentence Roseboro
faced was 20 years in prison
